David Phillip Turner, 33, a Miami resident, was arrested over the weekend following the investigation into the August murder of Crimea Malita Baker and Arlington resident Sean Antoine Lange in New Market.

He was identified by officials as Baker's ex-husband and the father of three children.

The arrest was made late in the afternoon on Saturday, Sept. 28 by members of the FBI and Fort Lauderdale Police Department in connection with the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office.

First responders were called at around 7 a.m. on Aug. 25, to a home in the 7000 block of Mangalong Court in New Market, where they found 33-year-old local resident Baker, and Lange, 34, suffering from gunshot wounds.

Both were pronounced dead at the scene. Four children inside the residence at the time of the shooting were unharmed.

It is believed they were shot at approximately 1:30 a.m. on the morning of the murders.

Investigators say that they believe the victims were living together at the time of the double murder. Baker is the mother of all four children and Lange is the father of one

“This was a heinous targeted double murder, a crime of rage and anger," Frederick County Sheriff Chuck Jenkins said at the time. "This is the type of crime that shocks the conscience of Frederick County residents.

"There is absolutely no reason to believe there is any risk or threat to the local public at large.

"I can assure the public that every available investigator and agency resource will be brought to bear in this case until the person(s) responsible are identified, arrested, and brought to justice."

Turner was charged with two counts of first-degree murder, home invasion, and two counts of the use of a firearm in a crime of violence or felony.

“Sheriff’s Office detectives have worked tirelessly, seven days a week for over a month with the help of multiple law enforcement agencies to identify the person responsible for these shocking murders," Jenkins said on Monday. "This investigation has been a priority of this office since the morning of the shootings.

"In anxiously waiting for closure and the arrest of the person responsible, the public has been extremely patient and can now be completely confident that this was a targeted domestic-related murder."

He's being held in Florida pending his extradition back to Maryland.

The Miami Beach Police Department, Miami-Dade Police Department, and Broward County Sheriff’s Office also assisted in this case, officials noted.

It remains under investigation.
